HDI Verischerung AG is a non-life insurer which became a member of the HDI group in 1983. It arranges insurance primarily through independent brokers. Half of its portfolio is made up of retail insurance, and in other years, in this insurance sector alone, HDI has achieved increasing success, which can clearly be attributed to its high quality products and services. It has repeatedly been awarded the prestigious prizes of the Assekuranz Award Austria (5 stars for motor vehicle, property, and legal protection insurance) and the AssCompact Award (1st place for motor vehicle insurance). The other half of the insurance portfolio consists of corporate insurance. HDI is one of the leaders in the Austrian market for insurance of industrial risks in regard to underwriting capacity, expertise, financial strength and international context, due to its membership of the Talanx group, and in particular its specialised provider HDI Global SE.

On 10th June 2009 the branch of HDI Versicherung AG in Slovakia took over the portfolio of the former company Poisťovňa HDI-Gerling Slovensko, a.s., which ceased to exist after completion of its cross-border merger with HDI Versicherung AG. The organisational integration into the structure of the Austrian insurance company gave the branch the potential to fully avail of the financial and systems resources, together with the personnel and technical support, of the Viennese headquarters. This advantage, together with an equally strong team of experienced and capable specialists on its own side, enables the branch to provide its Slovak customers with services at the highest level.
In its business operations in the Slovak republic, HDI is fully in accord with the business aims of its predecessors – Poisťovňa Gerling, and then HDI-Gerling Slovensko. The target customer segment is still industrial, particularly in the sectors of energy, engineering, electrical engineering, general manufacturing and construction, but also includes larger and medium sized business in the trade and service sectors. The key products in this segment are property and casualty insurance, liability insurance and transport insurance. In these types of insurance HDI can offer its clients comprehensive solutions for their individual insurance needs, complying with European standards for calculation of risks and their actuarial management.
